DUO RIDE: / Revpal \ Sungay (Out and Back)
Here we go. First time for Julius and I to ride up Sungay - a route that many have said to be one of the most difficult to climb around Tagaytay.
We plan to take it as easy as possible, and internalize the idea that walking at any point would not be emasculating.

15 minutes early! I had to make up for yesterday.

All week, we were psyching ourselves out for this ride, thinking that by expecting the worst, it would turn out to be easier. Sure. As if you can cheat a mountain with your mind.
We warm-up by heading up Revpal - a short, but challenging climbing route in it's own right. We take it EXTRA slow, to prepare us for the bigger climb ahead.

The beginning of the beginning of the end.
Before the actual climb, we first have to descend to the town of Talisay, after which we then make the U-turn to hell. Rakenrol!

What looks like a little black cloud in the middle of the photo is actually one of the small hills in Taal Lake.
It takes us 21 minutes and 30s. to descend...

When you look at how small the jeep is in comparison to the slope, you realize that this switchback isn't messing around.

...and an hour and 4 minutes to climb up. But we get it done and without walking. Mission accomplished, manhood intact!

For what? For suffering?
Little tidbit: this road is actually called Ligaya Drive.

I suppose. If you're descending.
On the way back down to Nuvali, we pass hundreds of riders along the road, with dozens or more walking their bikes up the climbs of Revpal - a route that is barely half as hard as the hell of a climb we just completed. What a day to level up!
